Bioped pedorthists assess, explain, answer questions and manufacture orthotics at on-site lab
To best educate each patient on their condition, a BioPed Pedorthist begins by taking a detailed history. He/she will ask a variety of questions as it is important to establish the origin and frequency of pain (feet, knees, legs, hips and back), how long the patient stands on their feet (at work, sports) and the type of footwear generally worn at work, home and play.
The patient will then participate in a number of tests including a walking gait analysis, (an evaluation of the way the patient walks) and a series of motion tests that evaluate flexibility. The Pedorthist will explain how a problem has occurred, how proper footwear and / or orthotics can be of help and of course, answer any questions a patient may have about the process.

The first step of the manufacturing process is now ready to begin. First, both feet are casted. As industry leaders, BioPed Pedorthists only use three dimensional casting techniques including mouldable wax, foam, plaster casting or a pin array computerized system. These methods are best suited for capturing the contours of the entire foot.

From here, the Pedorthist is able to create a wide range of orthotics to suite each patient's specific needs. All orthotics are fabricated in our own on-site labs to ensure full quality control and the convenience of on-the-spot adjustments as needed. Once the orthotics are manufactured, your Pedorthist will schedule an appointment to evaluate the fit of the orthotics and make any necessary adjustments. During the initial fitting, it is not unusual to make minor adjustments before the orthotics and footwear are partnered properly.

BioPed also carries great looking footwear including – athletic, comfort, dress, sandals, orthopaedic and safety shoes – all of which can be modified to fit most foot types. Patients are not left having to find a pair of shoes on their own, which can often result in improper selection of footwear – a contributor to the very problem we are attempting to resolve.
