rocker soles

The basic function of a rocker sole is to literally "rock" the foot from heel-strike to toe-off, without bending the foot inside the shoe.

In general, rocker soles are custom-made based on an individual’s particular needs. Rocker soles can be engineered and built to reduce or eliminate the bending of the toe joints, reduce pressure under the joints by more than 50%, improve gait (the way one walks) and heal plantar ulcers. With the reduction or elimination of pain, the hips and back are no longer forced to compensate.

One of our Canadian Certified Pedorthists can test your muscle strength to determine if this type of sole is right for you. You should consider rocker soles if you have metatarsalgia (an inflammation of the ball of the foot), Morton’s syndrome (a short 1st toe), bunions, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, high-arched feet, a rigid or semi-rigid 1st toe or forefoot fractures / traumas.

Mild forefoot rocker sole systems are pre-engineered into the many mainstream comfort shoes, sandals and boots you will find at all BioPed Centres.
