Heel pain can make any and every daily activity feel difficult. Getting out of bed in the morning, standing at work, or going for a walk all become uncomfortable when the bottom of your foot hurts. One of the most common causes of this type of pain is plantar fasciitis.

Plantar fasciitis happens when a thick band of tissue along the bottom of the foot becomes irritated. This tissue, called the plantar fascia, supports the arch of your foot and helps absorb pressure when you stand. It runs from the front of your heel all the way to your toes, and it acts like a spring for your body. When too much strain is placed on it over time, it can become overused and pain can develop in the heel or arch.

Plantar Fasciitis Can Affect Everyday Life

Plantar fasciitis pain is often described as:

Sharp pain in the heel when taking the first few steps in the morning

Discomfort after standing for long periods

Pain that gets worse after activity or exercise

Tightness in the arch or bottom of the foot

Soreness that can spread into the ankle or calf, from compensating

Several factors can increase the risk of plantar fasciitis, including:

Flat feet or high arches

Unsupportive or poorly fitting footwear

Standing or walking for long hours

Sudden increases in exercise or activity

Tight calf muscles

Extra pressure on the feet from weight gain or pregnancy

Ignoring the pain can sometimes make symptoms worse. That is why it is important to address the cause of the problem early.

How Custom Foot Orthotics Can Help

Custom Foot Orthotics are designed to support the feet based on your unique shape, movement, and pressure patterns. Unlike over-the-counter insoles, custom orthotics are made specifically for your feet.

For plantar fasciitis, orthotics help by:

Supporting the arch of the foot

Reducing strain on the plantar fascia

Improving foot alignment during walking

Redistributing pressure away from painful areas

Providing extra cushioning under the heel

Helping reduce fatigue in the feet and legs

Custom orthotics are often most effective when combined with other treatments, such as:

Stretching the calves and plantar fascia

Wearing supportive shoes

Reducing activities that aggravate the pain

Strengthening the muscles in the feet and lower legs

The Role of a Canadian Certified Pedorthist

A Canadian Certified Pedorthist is trained to assess how your feet move and how that movement may be contributing to pain.

During an assessment, they will:

Review your symptoms and medical history

Examine the structure of your feet

Assess how you walk and stand

Look at footwear for signs of uneven wear

Recommend supportive shoes or footwear changes

Determine whether custom orthotics may be appropriate

Suggest complimentary items and therapies

If orthotics are recommended, they are designed and built based on your specific needs rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Tips to Help Prevent Plantar Fasciitis

Even after pain improves, it is important to continue supporting your feet to help prevent symptoms from returning.

Helpful prevention tips include:

Wear supportive footwear indoors and outdoors

Replace worn-out shoes regularly

Stretch the calves and feet daily

Avoid walking barefoot on hard surfaces

Increase activity levels gradually

Maintain good foot support during exercise

Address foot pain early before it worsens

Plantar fasciitis can be frustrating, but it is often manageable with the right support. Custom orthotics, supportive footwear, stretching, and professional assessment can all play a role in reducing pain and improving comfort. Taking early action by seeing a Canadian Certified Pedorthist will help you stay active and avoid more persistent foot problems in the future.

Living with arthritis can be painful, especially when it affects your feet. Your feet bear the weight of your entire body, and arthritis in the feet can make simple tasks like walking, standing, or climbing stairs feel overwhelming. The good news is that custom orthotics can help reduce your pain and discomfort and protect your joints!

Understanding Arthritis

Arthritis is not just one condition; it’s a group of disorders that cause joint inflammation, stiffness, and pain. The most common types that can affect the feet include:

Osteoarthritis (OA): Commonly called “wear-and-tear” arthritis where cartilage breaks down over time.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA): An autoimmune disease that attacks joint linings.

Gout: Caused by uric acid crystal buildup, often starting in the big toe.

Post-Traumatic Arthritis: Joint damage after injury, leading to premature arthritis.

Psoriatic Arthritis: Linked with psoriasis, often affecting toes and ankles.

How Arthritis Manifests in the Feet

While the signs and symptoms of arthritis are complex, there are often many common ways these conditions will present. Look for the following in your feet:

Joint stiffness either in the morning or as you begin exercise.

Pain and swelling around toes, arches, heels, or ankles.

Deformities such as bunions, hammertoes, or collapsed arches.

Limited range of motion that makes it harder to walk or balance.

Tenderness and redness often seen with gout or inflammatory arthritis.

Difficulty finding shoes that fit due to swelling or deformities.

How Custom Orthotics Help with Arthritis Foot Pain

Custom orthotics are designed to reduce and offload pressure in the foot, encourage proper alignment in the feet and legs, and make walking and standing easier. Specifically, they can help in many ways:

Shock absorption cushions painful joints, reducing impact on feet and ankles.

Redistributing pressure prevents excess stress on arthritic or swollen joints.

Stability and alignment of foot mechanics eases strain on knees, hips, and lower back.

Reduced friction minimizes irritation that can worsen deformities like bunions or hammertoes.

Accommodations for deformities such as custom padding or cut-outs relieve pressure on sensitive spots.

Heel or arch support helps control motion that may aggravate arthritis pain.

Preventative Steps for Managing Arthritis in the Feet

Orthotics work best when combined with healthy habits. These can include things like:

Wearing supportive and accommodative footwear daily to minimize painful pressure irritation on swollen joints.

Stretching your feet and legs regularly to maintain mobility and flexibility and to improve your circulation.

Staying active with low-impact exercise (like swimming, cycling, or walking) to maintain joint health and reduce comorbidities.

Consulting the Arthritis Society for resources, education, and support programs tailored to your medical condition.

Seeing a Canadian Certified Pedorthist for assessment, ongoing follow up and personalized care.

Why See a Canadian Certified Pedorthist?

Managing arthritis in the feet requires more than just generic insoles. A Canadian Certified Pedorthist is a foot and lower limb specialist who can assess your unique biomechanics, design custom orthotics, and recommend appropriate footwear tailored to your arthritis needs. With a treatment plan made for your specific concerns, you can stay mobile, reduce pain, and protect your joints for the long term.

Arthritis is a common condition that affects millions of people worldwide, causing pain, swelling, and stiffness in the joints. Understanding the different types of arthritis and how they affect the body, especially the lower limbs, is crucial for managing symptoms and improving quality of life. This blog post explores four common types of arthritis—osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and gout—and discusses how orthotics can help manage these conditions.

Understanding Arthritis

Arthritis is characterized by inflammation of one or more joints, leading to pain and stiffness. The inflammation can result from various causes, including wear and tear, autoimmune responses, and crystal deposits in the joints. Here, we’ll look at the basic physiology of each type and how it affects the lower limbs.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common type of arthritis, often referred to as “wear and tear” arthritis. It occurs when the cartilage that cushions the ends of the bones wears down over time. In the lower limbs, OA commonly affects the knees, hips, and ankles, leading to pain, swelling, and reduced mobility.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system attacks the lining of the joints. This results in inflammation that can damage the joint tissue and cause severe pain and deformity. RA frequently affects the base of toe joints in the feet, causing difficulty in walking and significant discomfort.

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is associated with psoriasis, a skin condition. It can cause joint pain, stiffness, and swelling. In the lower limbs, PsA can affect the toes, ankles, and knees, leading to symptoms like “sausage” toes (dactylitis) and heel pain (enthesitis).

Gout is caused by the accumulation of urate crystals in the joints, leading to sudden and severe attacks of pain, redness, and swelling. It commonly affects the big toe but can also impact the knees, ankles, and other joints in the lower limbs.

How Orthotics Can Help

Foot orthotics are specially designed shoe inserts that provide support, alignment, and cushioning for the feet. They can play a crucial role in managing arthritis by redistributing pressure, improving joint alignment, and reducing pain. Here’s how orthotics can benefit each type of arthritis:

Osteoarthritis: For OA, orthotics can help by:

Providing cushioning to reduce impact on weight-bearing joints like the knees and hips

Improving foot alignment to decrease strain on affected joints

Distributing weight more evenly to alleviate pressure points

Rheumatoid Arthritis: In RA, orthotics can:

Offer support to the arches of the feet, reducing strain on inflamed joints

Include cushioned pads to alleviate pressure and prevent deformities

Help maintain proper foot alignment, minimizing pain and discomfort

Psoriatic Arthritis: Orthotics for PsA can:

Provide customized support to accommodate joint swelling and deformities

Cushion the feet to reduce pain from dactylitis and enthesitis

Improve overall foot function and mobility

Gout: For gout, orthotics can:

Offer a cushioned environment to protect sensitive joints during flare-ups

Improve weight distribution to minimize stress on the big toe and other affected areas

Support the arches to reduce overall foot strain

Custom Foot Orthotics: A Key Piece of the Treatment Plan

Custom foot orthotics are tailored to an individual’s specific foot shape and condition, offering the most effective relief. They can be worn during various activities, including walking, running, and standing for long periods. For those with arthritis, wearing orthotics more “full-time” can help manage symptoms throughout the day. You can consider wearing your custom orthotics during any of the following times:

During flare-ups of pain and inflammation.

When engaging in activities that put stress on the joints.

To improve overall foot function and alignment.

Incorporating Footwear and Bracing

Custom orthotics should be part of a comprehensive treatment plan that includes appropriate footwear and, in some cases, soft or rigid bracing. Proper footwear can enhance the effectiveness of orthotics by providing additional support and stability. Bracing can offer extra support and limit joint movement during severe flare-ups.

In today’s fast-paced world, many of us spend long hours on our feet, whether we’re working in healthcare, retail, construction, or other demanding professions. For those who experience foot pain, fatigue, or other lower body discomforts, custom foot orthotics can be a game-changer. But what exactly are custom orthotics, and how can they benefit you in the workplace?

What Are Custom Foot Orthotics?

Custom foot orthotics are specially designed shoe inserts that provide support and comfort tailored to the unique shape and needs of your feet. Unlike over-the-counter insoles, custom orthotics are crafted based on a detailed biomechanical assessment, gait analysis and cast of your feet. This personalized approach ensures optimal support, alignment, and relief from pain.

How Custom Orthotics Help in the Workplace

For individuals who spend a significant amount of time standing or walking, custom orthotics offer several benefits:

Enhanced Comfort: By providing tailored support, custom orthotics can reduce pressure points and evenly distribute weight, making long hours on your feet more bearable.

Pain Relief: Many people suffer from conditions like plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, or bunions. Custom orthotics can help relieve pain and address these issues by correcting abnormal foot mechanics and providing the necessary support.

Improved Posture and Alignment: Proper foot alignment affects your entire body. Custom orthotics can influence the position of your ankles, knees and hips, reducing strain on these key joints.

Increased Productivity: When you’re not distracted by foot pain or discomfort, you’re more focused and productive at work.

Styles of Custom Foot Orthotics

Custom orthotics come in various styles to address different needs and conditions:

Rigid Orthotics: Made from firm materials like plastic or very high-density foam, these are designed to control motion and provide support. They’re ideal for managing conditions like overpronation and flat feet.

Semi-Rigid Orthotics: Combining support and flexibility, these orthotics are often used for more mild-moderate corrections as well as athletic activities. They can help with issues like plantar fasciitis and shin splints.

Soft Orthotics: Made from softer cushioned materials, these are designed to absorb shock and accommodate sensitive areas on the foot. They are beneficial for people with diabetes, arthritis, and rigid high arches.

Why See a Canadian Certified Pedorthist?

When it comes to custom orthotics, seeing a Canadian Certified Pedorthist can make a world of a difference. These professionals are highly trained specifically in the assessment, design, manufacturing, and fitting of custom foot orthotics. Here’s why you should consider consulting one:

When it comes to accessing the care in our clinics, a common question is whether the province’s health plan will cover the cost. Programs such as OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan), HIBC (Health Insurance British Columbia), Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) and MSI (Medical Services Insurance) typically do not cover the items or services offered at BioPed for your foot health. Fortunately, coverage for treating your foot-related conditions such as plantar fasciitis and diabetes is often available through third-party insurance plans and other government programs. We’ve got the differences outlined below on how these options can lend a hand when it comes to managing your foot pain and discomfort.

Third-Party Insurance Coverage

Where most people will find coverage for their treatment plan at BioPed is through their health insurance or extended health benefits. These plans are typically offered through your place of work and provide coverage or reimbursement for healthcare services and medical items. Each BioPed clinic is well-equipped to create and provide the necessary paperwork required for an insurance claim. \

While there is no fee for assessments with Certified Pedorthists, most BioPed clinics have fees for appointments with a Registered Chiropodist or Footcare Nurse, and these fees could potentially be covered by your insurance plan. For more detailed information, we recommend reaching out to your local BioPed clinic directly. The clinical team at BioPed is always available to help you understand your plan coverage and provide valuable information when it comes to discussing with your insurance provider.

Government Assistance Programs

In addition to third-party insurance, various government programs beyond provincial health plans may offer coverage for BioPed products. Provincially funded disability programs such as ODSP, AADL and BCEA are examples of such initiatives, and we can coordinate with them to ensure you can access what funding might be available for you. In addition, some work-related injuries that are being managed by agencies like the WSIB, WCB – Alberta, WCB – Nova Scotia or WorkSafe BC may also provide funding for certain prescribed medical items. Our dedicated clinical team is equipped to assist you in navigating your coverage options available through these programs.

Referral and Prescription Requirements:

Contrary to some healthcare services, you do not need a referral to schedule an appointment with a BioPed Pedorthist. However, once a treatment plan is in place, it’s helpful to generate a quote for your insurance company to help you best understand coverage for specific medical items. Most insurance plans will require a prescription for specific devices like braces or custom orthotics before coverage can be provided, which is typically obtained from your family doctor or nurse practitioner (NP). Your BioPed clinic is happy to share a detailed report of your appointment with your doctor/NP, ensuring they are kept in the loop when it comes to managing your foot health and wellness.

Skin and toenail services, such as those provided by a Chiropodist or Footcare Nurse may require a referral per your benefit plan. We recommend that you contact your insurer to understand your obligations prior to your first visit.

Addressing Financial Constraints:

For those who are unable to access third-party insurance or government assistance, we are still willing and able to help. At BioPed, we begin with an assessment to determine the cause of your pain and look for ways to help to improve it. We are committed to finding solutions for your pain relief or injury prevention, and we have a wide variety of affordable options in our clinics to create your very own treatment plan with us.

Come See Us!

Take the proactive step toward better lower limb health by scheduling a visit to BioPed. As the largest network of lower limb care providers in Canada, serving over a million Canadians in the past four decades, we are dedicated to providing quality care and solutions for your foot, leg and knee health needs. Don’t delay—discover why BioPed is a trusted name in lower limb health today!

Athletic performance isn’t just for elite athletes; it’s for anyone who loves to move and play, regardless of age or skill level! Whether you’re a seasoned marathoner, a weekend soccer player, or simply enjoy a brisk walk in the park, taking care of your feet is essential for staying active and injury-free. In this blog, we’ll explore how orthotics can improve your athletic performance and keep your feet happy at any age. We’ll also discuss common foot and lower limb injuries and how we can help you stay on your feet.

Orthotics are superheroes for your feet. They’re custom-made shoe inserts designed to support and protect your feet while you move and play. While there are many kinds of off-the-shelf insoles available for sports and activities, the term “orthotics” typically refers to a custom-made medical device. They are made to uniquely address an individual’s biomechanics, and to help with movement from the ground up. Whether you have flat feet, high arches, or just need a little extra cushioning, orthotics can provide the support and shock absorption you need to keep your feet happy and healthy.

What Are Some of the Ways that Orthotics Can Help?

Treating Common Injuries: Foot and lower limb injuries like plantar fasciitis, shin splints, and Achilles tendonitis are all too common among athletes of all ages. Orthotics can help address, and potentially prevent these injuries by adding extra support and cushioning where you need it most. By reducing stress on your feet and lower limbs, orthotics can keep you in the game and out of the doctor’s office.

Improving Stability and Balance: Have you been feeling wobbly or unsteady on your feet during a game or workout? Orthotics can help improve your proprioception (your stability and balance) by providing strong support for your arches and ankles in just the right places. This can help you move more confidently and perform better whether it’s running, jumping, or kicking a ball.

Alleviating Pain: Foot, ankle, knee, and hip pains can all be a big setback when it comes to athletic performance. Whether it’s aching arches or sore heels, orthotics can help alleviate pain by providing cushioning and support where you need it most. With less pain to worry about, you can focus on having fun and playing your best.

Diabetes Support: Orthotics aid in managing foot complications associated with diabetes during physical activity by providing pressure relief, redistributing weight, and minimizing friction. They promote proper foot alignment and cushion sensitive areas, allowing individuals with diabetes to exercise safely and comfortably.

How a Pedorthist Can Help

A Pedorthist is a foot specialist who can make custom orthotics for your specific needs. They’ll start by assessing your feet and lower limbs through a biomechanical exam to identify any issues or imbalances that could be affecting your performance. Then, they’ll work with you to design custom orthotics that address your specific needs and goals.

Come See Us!

Whether you’re a young athlete just starting out or a seasoned pro, taking care of your feet is essential for staying active and injury-free. Orthotics can improve your athletic performance by treating common injuries, improving stability and balance, and alleviating foot pain. And with the help of your Canadian Certified Pedorthist at BioPed, you can get the perfect orthotics to keep your feet happy and healthy for years to come.

As we gear up to celebrate Foot Health Awareness Month, it’s the perfect time to pause and give our often-overlooked feet some well-deserved attention. Our feet carry us all day, every day, through life, yet we often neglect their care until they demand our attention. This May, let’s prioritize foot health and make strides towards happier, healthier feet. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you step into Foot Health Awareness Month with confidence:

Understanding Foot Health

Our feet are marvels of engineering, consisting of 26 bones, 33 joints, and a network of over 100 muscles, tendons, and ligaments. They provide support, balance, and mobility, allowing us to walk, run, and conquer daily activities. However, neglecting foot health can lead to a myriad of issues, including pain, discomfort, and mobility issues.

Importance of Foot Care

Proper foot care isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s crucial for overall well-being. Neglecting foot health can contribute to various conditions such as plantar fasciitis, bunions, calluses and corns, ingrown toenails, and more. Your feet can also serve as early warning signs for systemic conditions like diabetes, arthritis, and circulatory problems. By prioritizing foot care, we can prevent many of these issues and maintain an active lifestyle.

At-Home Tips for Healthy Feet

Maintain Proper Hygiene: Wash your feet daily with warm water and mild soap, paying attention to the spaces between your toes. Afterward, ensure they’re thoroughly dried to prevent fungal infections.

Choose the Right Footwear: Opt for shoes that provide enough support, cushioning, and room for your toes to move freely. Avoid shoes that are too tight as they can lead to discomfort and painful foot deformities.

Practice Good Nail Care: Trim your toenails straight across to prevent ingrown toenails. Avoid cutting them too short or rounding the edges, as this can increase the risk of painful ingrown nails.

Moisturize Regularly: Keep your feet hydrated by applying moisturizer, especially to dry areas like cracked heels and the balls of your feet. Avoid applying too much between the toes, as it can increase the risk of athlete’s foot.

Stay Active: Regular physical activity improves circulation and strengthens the muscles in your feet. Incorporate exercises like walking, stretching, and toe curls into your routine to promote foot health.

Check Your Feet Regularly: Inspect your feet for any signs of cuts, blisters, swelling, or discoloration. Early detection of foot problems allows for prompt intervention and prevents complications.

Spend Some Time Barefoot: While we want to keep our feet supported for work and strenuous activity, it is still a great idea to let your feet breathe, and walking on different textures can be healthy for the small muscles and nerves in your feet. If you have peripheral neuropathy or diabetes, talk to your family doctor or foot health expert to make sure this is safe for you!

Know Your Foot Health Experts

Incorporating the expertise of Pedorthists, Chiropodists, and Foot Care Nurses into your foot care routine can be a game-changer, especially if you’re dealing with painful or persistent foot problems. At BioPed, the clinical team plays a crucial role in promoting foot health, preventing injuries, and enhancing overall well-being. So, if you’re looking to take proactive steps towards healthier feet, consider scheduling a consultation with us and experience the difference we can make in your life.

Come See Us!

During Foot Health Awareness Month, take the opportunity to educate others about the importance of foot care. We encourage you to share these informative resources, organize awareness events, or simply start a conversation about foot health with friends and family. Together, we can empower individuals to prioritize their foot health and take proactive steps towards happier, healthier lives.

Finding Your Balance: How Orthotics Enhance Your Alignment and Empower You to Do More!

When embarking on life’s journeys, whether you’re an avid hiker, weekend warrior or simply going about day-to-day activities, you require a solid foundation. Orthotics can provide solid support, quietly working to help bring balance and alignment with every step you take.

Orthotics do more than just support your arches. In addition to providing relief for painful foot problems or injuries, orthotics may also help those who must walk or stand for a long time as part of their job by redistributing pressures across their feet and lower limbs. Our daily lives include a great deal of movement and pressure on our feet. Slight imbalances — which may not cause problems to you under usual circumstances — may make a person more susceptible to injury with extra stress of an active lifestyle. By eliminating the need for our muscles to compensate for imbalances or irregular walking form, orthotics can reduce fatigue, improve balance and promote efficient muscle function to enhance performance.

Much like a house with a faulty foundation, your ankles, knees, hips, and back can suffer if we don’t have the proper support at our feet. Orthotics are also very helpful for knee, hip and back pain, especially when accompanied by problematic foot types, such as a flat foot or a foot with a high arch. Orthotics can assist with reducing strain on the Achilles tendon or plantar fascia by supporting our heels, offloading a troublesome bunion with contoured arch support and controlled pronation, accommodating for a painful deformity, or allowing for more stability in a previously injured ankle through high boarders and support in the device.

There are many different styles of orthotics, and one of our BioPed clinicians can help determine what type is best suited for you. An orthotic is not magic, but it can give you the confidence to step forward, to explore, or to do more! At BioPed, we understand that every client is unique and so are their specific needs. Our skilled BioPed clinicians are dedicated to crafting orthotics tailored to the individual foot structure and lifestyle. The goal is to craft a device that creates a harmonious relationship between your feet and the ground.

At BioPed, we are big believers in empowering our clients with more than just the right custom-made orthotic device. BioPed clinicians are firm believers in educating their clients and giving them the proper knowledge about their condition and treatment plan to accompany the devices dispensed. Simple exercises to strengthen muscles and joints, tips for selecting the correct footwear for your foot type, and understanding the tricky skin and nail conditions are all part of the journey we take with you. BioPed clinicians are always happy to answer all questions or address any concerns that our clients may have.

Come See Us!

Orthotics are more than just a shoe insert, they are the cornerstone in building a more aligned, balanced and active life. Our BioPed clinicians are here to help make your journey memorable, one step at a time.

How have your custom orthotics been holding up lately? Your orthotics can undergo a lot of wear and tear throughout the day, whether you use them in work boots, dress shoes, sandals, or a combination of them all! Keep reading to learn more about how your orthotics age over time and about the steps you can take to keep your orthotics looking fresh and make sure they last as long as they can.

With all the running around at home, work, and everything in between, it’s normal and expected to see your orthotics become dirty over time. Sweat, lint, sand, dust, mud, and even pet hair all finds their way into your footwear, leading to stains and unpleasant odors over time. These elements can also form small yet uncomfortable bumps on the surface of your orthotics and trap bacteria inside your shoes. For those with sensitive skin, peripheral neuropathy, or diabetes, these bumps and bacteria pose a significant risk to overall foot health and should be monitored daily.

The Solution

The easiest way to care for your custom orthotics is to regularly wipe them down with a damp cloth and gentle hand soap. This practice effectively prevents bacterial buildup and extends the life of your orthotics by keeping them clean and fresh. Avoid soaking your orthotics in water or deep cleaning as this can wear down the glue or adhesive that holds the different parts together. If your orthotics happen to become soaked or submerged, immediately remove the orthotics from your footwear and leave them out to air-dry in a space with good airflow and away from direct heat. Excessive heat can distort certain materials in your orthotics, that provide crucial support to your feet. So, avoid placing them near heaters or out in the sun all day to dry! If you have any concerns about tougher stains or damages to your orthotics, you can schedule a follow-up appointment with your local BioPed clinician to assess the orthotics as needed.

With regular care and cleaning, your orthotics will continue to keep you feeling comfortable even as you approach their replacement time. While custom orthotics have a long lifespan, they will not last forever and the support they offer will start to decline as the materials wear down. Soft, cushioned materials compress and thin out, while the firm supportive orthotic shells may bend or distort over time. As the support from your orthotics changes or weakens over time, you might experience discomfort and strain in your feet and legs during the day. Many insurance plans and extended health benefits cover new custom orthotics every 1-2 years because they appreciate that they do become less effective with heavy use and wear and tear.

BioPed recommends annual check-ups to verify that your orthotics still adequately support your feet and aren’t prematurely wearing out in unexpected areas. Feel free to get in touch with us to explore ways to prolong the life of your current custom orthotics or find out if it’s time to invest in a comfortable new pair today!
