At BioPed Footcare, one of the most common questions we get asked is whether or not our services and products are covered by OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan), HIBC (Health Insurance British Columbia) and MSI (Medical Services Insurance). The short answer is, NO. The Provincial Medical Insurance Plans do not provide coverage, but many Third-Party Insurance Plans DO!

At BioPed Footcare, we accept most Third-Party Insurance Provider Coverage. These are the plans that are available to Employees through their place of Employment. If you’ve never dealt with Insurance, or are unfamiliar with the terminology, navigating your Plan Coverage can be a difficult process. We recommend getting in touch with your Insurance Provider to determine the Coverage details of your Benefit Plan!

At select BioPed Footcare clinics, a visit to a Registered Chiropodist or Footcare Nurse is available and does entail a fee, that may or may not be covered by your Insurance. Please inquire by finding your local BioPed Footcare clinic at www.BioPed.com/Locations

Most Insurance Providers have details regarding your Benefit Coverage on their Website, or this can be determined through your Human Resources department at work. However, we are always happy to help you determine what your Plan covers.

Lastly, in addition to Third-Party Insurance Companies, many Government Programs that fall outside of the Provincial Health Plan DO provide coverage for some of our products, such as Provincially Funded Disability Programs, and so on. Our clinical team will help you navigate the Coverage from these programs also.

Another question we get asked is “Do I need a referral to come into the clinic, or to schedule an appointment?

The answer to this question is also, NO. You can request a complementary appointment anytime on our Website at – www.BioPed.com/Locations. However, once a treatment plan has been decided upon, we typically suggest creating a quote for your Insurance Company before proceeding to determine what your Coverage would be for the items you require. Some Insurance Plans require a Prescription for certain devices, such as a Brace or Orthotics. This can be obtained after your assessment, or before, and may require that you visit with your Family Doctor to receive a prescription for our products and services. This isn’t always the case, but it is good to keep in mind – plus, following up with your Doctor on a regular basis is a MUST!

Hopefully, this helps to clear up some of the common inquiries in the Private Footcare Industry that often aren’t discussed! BioPed Footcare is dedicated to finding a solution to your pain or offering prevention of injury. If financial constraints and lack of Insurance Coverage are keeping you from visiting us, we recommend a complimentary Pedorthic assessment to discuss alternate solutions and Payment Plans.
