Joint pain is an extremely common issue that a lot of Canadians tend to live with on a daily basis. Lots of people tend to just swallow the pain and try and continue on with their day – but did you know there are ways to ease your pain or even bring it to a stop?
Arthritis affects millions of people in Canada and can be present in many different joints in the body like the hips, knees, ankles or feet. It is a broad term, but it boils down to having inflammation in a specific joint on your body. It can be brought on by age, from normal activity and overuse of a joint or even poor genetics. It can not only cause pain, but it can cause things like: swelling, aching and stiffness in one or more joints. It is usually a slow process and one that can be difficult to diagnose. It’s always good to watch out for certain warning signs like; a red and painful joint that’s hot to the touch, finding a specific joint becoming more painful and stiff and just overall soreness.
Now, what can be done to help arthritis or joint pain? Treatment can typically include medications such as antibiotics or anti-inflammatories or you might be asked to have an Xray and bloodwork done by your family doctor to confirm what kind of joint pain you may have to be more specific in what kind of treatment plan will work best for you. However, there are a lot of things that can help that don’t include medications! Things like proper fitting footwear with the right features, knee/ankle/foot bracing that can help stabilize the joint which will in turn help with any kind of pain you may be experiencing as well as custom made orthotics to help support the body during it’s time of need.
