Relieve foot & lower limb pain via custom orthotics

Foot pain and lower leg pain relief by our footcare Clinicians (using Custom Orthotics, Compression Stockings, Knee & Ankle Bracing, Orthopaedic Footwear and other Footcare Products) have been the focus of BioPed Gravenhurst and the 80+ BioPed clinics across Canada for more than 40 years. We hand-craft your custom orthotics in our signature on-site lab for a quick, initial turnaround, and on-the-spot adjustments, all to ensure your maximum comfort.

BioPed provides complete lower limb and footcare solutions using compression stockings (medical and non-medical grade), custom & non-custom knee and ankle bracing, comfort footwear, over-the-counter shoe inserts and custom made orthotics, footcare for those with Diabetes, and additionally, we offer a line of foot creams to treat cracked/dry feet and nail fungus along with other footcare products.

Your Care Team

BioPed has developed a unique approach to the assessment, fabrication, fitting, and adjustment of orthotics – designed to ensure that the patient gets the best possible result. Each BioPed patient receives a comprehensive, hands-on biomechanical assessment focused on their feet and how they move, your lifestyle, and any potential sources of pain.

What is a Biomechanical Assessment?

A complete Biomechanical Assessment takes about 40 minutes. Various tests are done ranging from a walking gait analysis (with and without shoes), muscle strength, foot/ankle alignment and joint flexibility, assess joints and muscles while seated, standing and walking to determine if and where abnormal function and mechanics exists.

Your Pedorthist will ask you a series of questions. Some may include:
• applicable health conditions
• medications
• previous injuries
• activity
• workplace environment
• review current footwear

Your Treatment Plan

Pedorthist will develop an optimal treatment plan and discuss all products that can be helpful based on the client’s condition.

The appointment may include: the sizing of your feet, trying-on of shoes (indoor and outdoor), the measurement of your legs for bracing or compression, and the casting of your custom orthotics.

What you Should Bring to your Appointment

Clients should be prepared by: Bringing prescription (not required for initial visit) and recent imaging reports if applicable, bring current shoes that are worn most often (home/work/leisure), wear shorts or pants that can be rolled above the knee, have knowledge of insurance details prior to appointment, BioPed intake form complete in advance preferred (sent by email to the BioPed clinic).

What to expect on your first medical footcare visit

Medical Footcare at BioPed is a holistic approach to lower limb health. Your medical footcare team includes Advanced Footcare Nurses and Registered Chiropodists. To prepare for your first appointment, please bring a list of medications you take, remove nail polish and arrive a few minutes early to fill out an intake form. This initial visit is scheduled for 30-45 minutes and will focus on establishing your medical record, taking a relevant medical history, getting to know you better, assessing your feet as they are and then treating the foot issue that bothers you most.

BioPed’s Advanced Footcare Nurses and Registered Chiropodists will perform similar footcare treatments on their clients but their scope of practice does differ. Routine nail care for ingrown and fungal toenails, callus and corn reduction, wart treatment and foot health education can all be carried out by both clinicians. Chiropodists can also prescribe topical and oral medications, perform soft tissue procedures, administer injections into the foot and conduct biomechanical assessments and gait analyses.

When your first medical footcare appointment comes to an end, a follow-up appointment will typically be scheduled as consistent routine footcare is recommended for enhanced foot health. Your footcare clinician will spend time with you to ensure you leave your appointment feeling more comfortable, knowledgeable, empowered and optimistic about your foot health. Your BioPed medical footcare team shares a common goal – increasing your comfort and helping you do more in life.
